The decision to include this young, rising talent as the first entry in this new segment was made just because of how much I've been listening to her channel recently. I started following her over a year ago when I was looking for covers of certain songs, and came across her channel. If you ever grew up with the Carpenters, or were lucky enough to discover them later, then you'll recognize the core talent she has. I've never heard anyone else sound so close to Karen Carpenter's voice - the intonation, the expression, even the depth and phrasing of her voice. Closing your eyes, it's easy to believe you're listening to Karen! Of course, she did a cover of my fave Carpenters song, "Superstar," which was redone by Keanu Reeves' band Dogstar, shortly after Rock Rips began.
In her more recent posts, we see her performing live and doing covers from soft rock standards of the 60s and 70s. Perhaps she's an old soul, channelling the pain and joy of her previous lives to the present. Whatever it is, Tori's voice just as easily applies her own edge on songs from Olivia Newton-John, Eric Clapton, Joni Mitchell, BJ Thomas, Bob Dylan, the Beatles, and more. She recently toured with a number of other artists covering classic songs, under the direction of music legend Todd Rundgren. I have every confidence that she will find all the fame and fortune her talent brings her.
