Sometimes called the Great White North, Land of the Living Skies, or Maple Syrup Country, I first learned that Canada's had lots of music I'd never heard growing up in the US! Sure, we knew about Loverboy, Bryan Adams , The Guess Who , and Bachman-Turner Overdrive ; I even knew about Rush , The Tragically Hip and Lighthouse , but when I moved here the first time in 2000, my eyes were opened to a plethora of amazing bands and musicians! Of course we need to include Nickelback, Neil Young, Gordon Lightfoot, Alannah Myles, Barenaked Ladies, and Avril Lavigne. Every one listed in the previous sentence had at least one #1 on the Billboard US Hot 100. I soon realized that many of the Canadian bands I'd heard of were far more significant in Canada. Bands like Toronto, April Wine, Platinum Blonde, Trooper, Triumph, Saga and Helix all had bigger careers outside of the US. Because there are too many to list here, I'm only going to list just a sampling of Canadian artists and bands who've reached #1 on Rockrips.
