Some considered them Goth, others industrial metal. They seemed most comforable with the genre Neue Deutsche Härte, also called Dance Metal. Omega Lithium first got our attention in early 2011 with their smash hit "Stigmata." Hailing from Croatia, and according to Wikipedia, Stigmata "received more than a quarter of a million views, which is the highest viewing number for a debut song in this genre." The band was an instant hit, largely due to the vampire-themed video, band leader Malice Rim's guitar riffs, and vocalist Mya Mortensen's bittersweet singing. The song reached #1 for 6 weeks here on Rock Rips, and landed as the #1 song for the year in 2011. They followed it up with another #1 "Dance With Me" which stayed on top for 3 weeks. After that, their second album focused more on dance music, and while it landed them with the #2 song "Colossus" and the #10 hit "Kinetik," by mid 2012 they were done. Mya left the band and Malice and Zoltan Harpax formed Manntra and they've released 5 full=length CDs; while drummer Torsten Nihill joined Monox which broke up in 2019. Neither of these bands ever hit it big again.
And what about Mya Mortenson? She seems to have disappered from the spotlight, but before she did so she mentioned on a Facebook account why. She says that the guitar and bass players had been working for 6 months on a side project (Manntra) without her knowledge. When it came time to get the recording contract, which she had invested alot of time, effort, and money into. In her words, "with the contract came an important rule of not being allowed to have any side projects - otherwise, you're breaking the contract and it's done."
Mya closes with this statement: "Sometimes we meet each other on the street and say hi, we're still making music and I wish nothing but the best for them, because we have the same goal - to succeed in doing what makes us happy. But I've chosen not to work with such people. And yes, now I feel better."
