2024 in ReviewOur Number 1 of the year for 2023 comes from a band that's been around for a very long time - since 1994, actually. Xandria is currently with their 6th vocalist, and I'm certainly hopeful she stays with them a long time. It was their first release with Ambre Vourvahis that caught our attention a few years ago, when they released a CD that has generated 6 (maybe even 7, depending on your point of view) #1s - a Rock Rips record! Their 6th and seventh singles from the disc are at #1 and #2 for the year - at the top is the epic anthem "Two Worlds," which features Ambre on all vocals, including harsh vocals; and at #2 is the catchy "My Curse is my Redemption." This year we again feature artists from 17 countries: 9 from the US, 7 from both Germany and International; 5 each from Italy and Norway; 4 each from Holland and Switzerland; 3 each from Austria, Israel, Mexico, and the UK; 2 each from Ukraine and Sweden; and 1 apiece from Finland, France, Greece and Denmark. Canada is once again mysteriously absent from our year-end chart!Fourteen bands have more than 1 hit on our chart, including 4 from Exit Eden (#22, 31, 34 & 42) 3 each from Anaria (#18, 36, 39), The Dark Side of the Moon (#20, 37, 38), Mortemia (#25, 28 & 31), Xandriay (#1, 2 & 47), Visions of Atlantis (#3, 17 & 49), Beyond the Black (#4, 5, & 15), Alterium (#16, 24 & 50), and The Warning (#10, 11 & 45); and two each from Liliac (#26, #43), Noapology (#17, 27), Hellscore (#9, 29), Charlotte Wessels (#13, 23), and Sirenia (#13, 40). Of course, the extra appearance of Ambre Vourvahis with Mortemia means a 4th appearance in addition to her 3 with Xandria. This is the first year since arriving on Rock Rips that The Warning has missed the top spot after having their first 10 go to #1! And Nicoletta Rosselini appears in two bands on the chart, Walk in Darkness and Alterium. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
